Aga Khan Education Service, Bangladesh

The Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) is considered one of the country’s leading providers of quality education.

A volunteer Board of Directors manages the non-profit organization. Financial surpluses are re-invested so as to continuously enhance education.

A small formal institution was established in 1988 to educate youth, based on the British Certification System with English as the language of instruction. The School offered Class Nine (O Level) through to Class 12 (A Level) education. From its earliest days, the School was equipped with a science laboratory and a library.

In May 1993, the Aga Khan signed a Protocol Agreement with the Government of Bangladesh establishing the Aga Khan Education Service in the country.

The Aga Khan Education Service recently secured a 20-acre site for the construction of an Aga Khan Academy. The new purpose-built academy will be an IB World School featuring a student-centred teaching and learning environment designed to stimulate the joy of inquiry, and a broad, multidisciplinary education with an emphasis on the humanities.
