The Aga Khan School, Mundra

Balanced Curriculum

The Aga Khan School, Mundra (AKSM) is a co-educational institution which follows the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum, offering classes from Nursery to Grade 12. Lessons at all levels are facilitated through an integrated curriculum, which is supplemented by a variety of co-curricular activities, field trips and class projects.

AKSM is renowned for its student centric approach, staff welfare, teacher development, modern amenities, innovative academic initiatives, STEAM curriculum, teacher parent engagement and purpose-built infrastructure. The school has aimed to provide quality education to students from diverse backgrounds with the support of the teachers and the community.

The curriculum across the Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Sections is interconnected and is designed to ensure the holistic development of students.

The school follows a learner centered pedagogy using Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. This integrated learning approach caters to every child’s learning style and strength. Every lesson across subjects and grades, balances the development of higher order thinking skills with the syllabus and teachers integrate the skills of Blooms Taxonomy in their lesson plans.

The Teaching-Learning Approach

Pre-Primary Section

Our Pre-Primary curriculum promotes holistic learning through a progressive, well-researched methodology of Shishu Pahel Padhati (SPP). AKESI’s registered pedagogy draws inspiration from the philosophy and practices of the High Scope international curriculum. SPP is a child-centred pedagogy and literally means “child first”. It encourages children to plan and construct their own learning, thus encouraging their natural self-confidence. The pedagogy enables children to develop knowledge, skills, values and attitudes for their current and future needs.

SPP is based on the sound principles of developmentally appropriate practices. The teachers work towards creating a caring equitable community of learners and establishing respectful reciprocal partnerships with families and communities. They plan and implement an engaging curriculum to meet meaningful goals with considerations for differentiation and diversity. SPP focuses on experiential learning through hands-on activities that include opportunities for children to explore, experience, practice, reflect and share their learnings. The preschool follows an teacher-student ratio of 1:15.

Primary Section

Curiosity and creativity mark the activities in the Primary Section. Classroom interactions provide a wide scope to explore, express and engage with the content. Our method caters to the diverse needs of students. Lesson plans aim to address the musical, spatial, kinesthetic, natural, logical, linguistic, inter and intrapersonal intelligence of learners.

The natural curiosity and creativity of students is nurtured through application-based learning methods. Learning is facilitated keeping in mind the appropriate pace and time for the students to learn and revise various topics.

Activities such as Spell Bee, My Dictionary, Wisdom Tree, Book Buffet, Buddy Reading and Puppet shows, create an English Language rich environment at AKSM. A specially created time slot, DEAR – Drop Everything and Read, inculcates the love of reading in students.
