AKES, India is a member of the ECD core group of the Gujarat State Council for Education and Research Training (GCERT). The group was established to review the State Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (SCF-FS). States were given the freedom to contextualise the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS), which was released in October 2022, in accordance with their requirements.

The role of the ECD core group includes contextualising the curriculum, preparing content, as well as an activity bank, and designing student assessment tools for the state. As a member of the group, AKES, India and six other organisations played a pivotal part in reviewing the NCF-FS.

Through numerous workshops and meetings, AKES, India and the other group members conducted several discussions and exchanged ideas with fellow educators, allowing each organisation to share valuable insights. AKES, India’s commitment to this endeavour allowed for constructive feedback on the framework’s effectiveness, with this process being instrumental in shaping the state’s curriculum.

"It was an enriching experience for me to be part of the team that contributed to the SCF-FS curriculum for the state,” said the Regional Head of Gujarat from AKES, India Dr Iqbal Sama, Regional who expressed his gratitude for being part of the team. “We had the opportunity to add value to the curriculum, along with some of the eminent educators from the state.”

As an outcome of this review and contextualisation process, AKES, India, along with the other organisations in the group, developed an age-appropriate curriculum, content, activity bank and child observation tools for 3 to 6-year-olds.

The Aga Khan Education Service, India is committed to the belief in quality education and actively pursues this objective through collaborative efforts with the Gujarat Government.
