Teachers Recruitment

The Lycée, with support from the Aga Khan Education Service, Tajikistan, is strongly committed to promoting and enhancing quality education. Better-trained and skilled teachers provide a more varied, interesting and enriched learning experience for the young people.

Teachers are therefore carefully recruited through a rigorous selection process. Members of the School leadership and administration participate in the interview process. The teacher selection criteria includes: competence and experience in the subject area, understanding of modern teaching pedagogy, commitment to student-centered learning and adaptability to change, and experience with youth development is valued.

Continuing Professional Development

Prior to the Lycée's annual academic year, all teachers participate in training conducted by the in-house professional development team led by the Professional Development Trainers (Master of Education graduates from the Aga Khan University’s Institute for Educational Development). During the School year, one day per week (Methodology Day) is set aside for Professional Development. There are workshops on student-centered learning, English language and Information Technology.

From 2016 onwards, an emphasis will be put on developing the English language proficiency of all leadership and faculty, through blended programmes offered by Cambridge English.

Teacher Performance Review and Quality Education

The Lycée appraises its staff annually. During this process, each teacher has his/her performance assessed on the professional development participation, the quality of their classroom performance, involvement in school life, and the contribution to the improvement of quality teaching and learning at AKL.
