The Fulbright TEA is a six-week professional development programme sponsored by the United States (US) Department of State and held at a university in the US for secondary-level teachers of English, science, mathematics, social studies English as a foreign language and special education. During the programme, teachers engage in graduate-level seminars, observe classes, co-teach and share their knowledge and expertise with secondary school teachers in the US. The participants also engage in an online professional learning community with other participants to share best practices from their home country and participate in educational and cultural activities while in the US. The programme aims to equip the teachers with knowledge and skills that they can share with other teachers and students upon returning to their home country.

For Savriniso, she spent her programme at the University of Arkansas. She said the programme helped her develop innovative teaching skills and practices, while also helping her strengthen her communication skills with people from around the world.

“I indeed had a unique opportunity to spend an amazing six-week professional and cultural journey with more than 20 English teachers from different parts of the world through the Fulbright TEA programme,” Savriniso said. “Fulbright TEA is an education and culture-rich programme that encourages you to experience an environment in which you not only learn about other cultures, systems and values but you are also provided a space for sharing yours.”
