These schools have an enrolment of about 42,448 students and employ almost 1,936 teachers, and AKES,P is also supported by more than 2,000 volunteers. A significant proportion of students impacted by AKES in Pakistan are from the rural areas. Strong efforts have been made to continue to improve the quality of education in some of the most remote parts of the country. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral (GBC), Aga Khan Schools were set up in the 1940s and have since contributed significantly to increase the rate of literacy and socio-economic development in these remote, mountainous regions of northern Pakistan.

AKES, P currently operates 152 schools in GBC, providing quality educational access to over 32,800 students, of which almost 50 percent are female. AKES, P also operates four schools in Karachi, three in Hyderabad and rural Sindh and one in Hafizabad, Punjab, with an enrolment of more than 9,600 students. All Aga Khan Schools follow the national curriculum and place special emphasis on English, Mathematics, Science and the increasing use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

AKES, P continuously improves educational practice; leadership and management in diverse and challenging settings; female education; child-centered teaching methods; increasing the use of information technology; school-based teacher development; and working in partnership with governments and communities.
