Inauguration of new building at the Diamond Jubilee High School, Harp
On 10 March 2024, the Diamond Jubilee High School, Harp hosted an inaugural ceremony of a new building for its campus.
The school was first established in 1962 in a small building as a primary school in Shot village for both girls and boys. The school was then upgraded to a middle school in 1983 and finally to a high school in 2015. It currently serves 465 students.
The new building will cater to the educational needs of students at the school, as well as students in adjoining villages, namely Druch, Dalkoi, Karimabad and Dapis. It comprises of four classrooms, a science lab, an ICT lab, a library, a school head office and a staffroom.
The event was graced by the Vice President of the Ismaili National Council for Pakistan, Mr Akbar Ladak and the donor of the new building, Mr Wazir Abdur Rehman Kanji. In attendance was the President of the Ismaili Regional Council for Punial-Ishkoman, Professor Dadu Khan Sabir; the CEO of the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Pakistan, Mr Imtiaz Momin; Head of Education at AKES, Pakistan, Mr Aien Shah; members of Thoi Valley’s local council; and many more.
The guests were welcomed by the students and the community and presented with flower bouquets, standing ovations and a round of applause. The General Manager of Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral at AKES, Pakistan, Khush Muhammed, and Senior Manager for School Development (Academics) at AKES, Pakistan, Bulbul Khan, conveyed a message to the community, calling the new building a blessing for them from His Highness the Aga Khan, the founder of the Aga Khan Schools.
"New buildings are not the end until and unless new talents emerge from the facility,” he said. “We appreciate the generous support of Mr Wazir Abdur Rehman Kanji and his family.”
Mr Wazir congratulated the community on the occasion of the inauguration, which will be a source of knowledge and development for the current and future generations.
Vice President of the Ismaili National Council for Pakistan, Mr Akbar Ladak and Mr Imtiaz further thanked Mr Wazir and his family, as well as the local community, for supporting the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan’s schools.
